Roberto Mancini times on Manchester City participants after defeat by Spurs - The Guardian

Roberto Mancini has questioned the attitude of his Manchester City participants, wondering whether it has been the equivalent of their Manchester United competitors as his club prepared to give the Premier League name with their cross-town competitors. City's 3-1 defeat at White Hart Lane byAa Tottenham Hotspur staff that made a dramatic statement about their ChampionsALeague credentials meant that UnitedAwill secure their 20th league championship with a property conquer Aston VillaAon Monday evening. Mancini was as puzzled as many the others in north London on Sunday afternoon as City failed to develop on an earlier lead and then surrendered a posture of comfort in the final stages. Inspired by Gareth Bale and three very successful alterations by AndrA Villas-Boas, Tottenham scored three goals in seven minutes to reignite a top-four desire that appeared to have faded. As Villas-Boas looked forward to Tottenham's final five suits, with the definitive one to come at Chelsea, Mancini was left to think on his players' desire, which he suggested had to be the problem as there was nothing to select between them and United in technical terms. "We do not have a distance [to United]," said Mancini, the Town manager. "The last several years an each time we've played United, we've played better, also when we have lost the overall game. We lost in the last minute [earlier in the season]. Last year we beat them easily. The reason why there is a hole like currently [in the league] a probably there is more perspective, they needed. The season was started by them and they desired to gain after last year. There are many reasons why we drop but I repeat, they deserve to win it." Mancini was questioned whether he thought City had handed United the concept. "Sometimes we probably did," he answered. "IAthink the 13- or 15-point distance is not truth because of this tournament. They're not a much better team but because we lost a lot of points in games we probably did not deserve to lose they deserve to win this title. United won plenty of games in a row with goals and they deserve to win the name. "The race was done 3 or 4 months ago. Will I watch the Villa game? IfAI am in the home, why not? It will mean nothing to us. We wanted to win this championship. Exactly what do we do? We can perhaps say only congratulations to them. You deserve to win it, when you win. YouAalways require a little bit of luck in football. It's like life.ABut they didn't win by chance. They had a better attitude since they lost last year." Mancini appeared to revisit an old complaint when he spoke of United getting "some new participants in the summertime and they won a lot of goals." He'd been decided to sign the striker Robin Van Persie from Arsenal, limited to the Dutchman to join United and provide 21 league goals up to now this year. "I am unhappy because I prefer to get the championship," Mancini added. "This was our goal. Because I want always the utmost I am unhappy with the growing season. But we have still another chance to gain the FA Cup and I think the FA Cup is essential. And we could maintain 2nd place. If that's not adequate enough, then every manager must certanly be sacked." Villas-Boas featured Clint Dempsey's 75th minute equaliser since the turning point and he said that his people' confidence have been restored. "We still have to achieve our goals with this time to certainly be a complete success," he said. "Hopefully we are able to accomplish it. We're in get a handle on because we have the game in hand but it's against Chelsea, and it's a difficult game at Stamford Bridge."
