Preakness 2013: Why Low Payout to get Orb Makes Favorite a negative Bet.

Right after winning the Kentucky Derby inside convincing fashion, Orb enters the Preakness Stakes for the reason that overwhelming favorite. This is simply not necessarily the best bet to earn on Saturday.

This means that a successful bet at the top contender would provide a return of as few as your original price. Although Orb is good, she's not solid enough so that you can justify this low commission.

Despite winning five directly races, a lot had to go in the horse's favor to continue this streak. An individual major factor was this muddy track at Churchill Downs, where his experience paid off against a portion of the other competitors.

Other contenders like Goldencents and additionally Itsmyluckyday struggled in those conditions earlier inside the month, but they has to be stronger at Pimlico. Newcomers Govenor Charlie and Departing should also be tough to beat.

However, the biggest issue that can hold Orb back from winning the second leg of the Triple Crown will be the post position. He will have to start from the No. 1 slot, which could end up being a problem.

We saw at a Kentucky Derby what jockey Joel Rosario wanted related to his mount. From a No. 16 post, he did not even try to find yourself in good position at the beginning and was very comfy sitting behind the bunch. It was not before final turn that Rosario pushed the horse with the front.

Unfortunately, this strategy will not be possible at the Preakness. Starting close to the rail will force Orb to getting a good start; otherwise, he could often be trapped inside with no room to maneuver. This will especially be true while using fast-starting Goldencents starting at No. 2.

Additionally, history is simply not on Orb's side typing in the prestigious race, according to David Grening of Daily Racing Forum:

The Kentucky Derby winner will need to overcome more information on failed runners at that event. Based on its competition around him, it will not be too easy.

Orb is inclined the most talented horse with the race, but that doesn't always lead to a win. There are way too many factors at play which will prevent him from keying in the winner's circle.

With this thought, it would be a smarter move to place a bet on one of many other contenders that could hopefully bring a more suitable payout.
