5 Parts Manchester United Have Beaten Manchester City In 2010 - Bleacher Statement

Their 12-point lead over rivals Manchester City may be massive in the context of the season, but it is not insurmountable.

However, it would be fair to say that the Red Devils have played better football than Roberto Mancini's side this term, and are fully deserving of their standing.

The Italian boss' recent claim that United "have been really lucky with everything" just doesn't hold true (via The Mirror).

When the going has gotten tough, and it certainly has at several points in the season, Manchester United have not shirked away from the challenge.

Sir Alex's side has claimed numerous late wins this term, most notably in their first meeting with City last year where a Robin van Persie free kick broke the hearts of the Etihad faithful. For Manchester City, the top names have failed to deliver too often. The Blues have lost as many games as United, but lackadaisical performances have seen them draw eight times to United's two.

This is a matter of accountability. The quality in both squads is closer than United's 12-point lead suggests, but the Red Devils have turned their quality into ruthless wins far more often than their crosstown rivals have.

One could legitimately argue that should United claim Premier League glory this season, their ability to woo Robin van Persie to the red half of Manchester was a key moment.

The Red Devils' summer spending was far more thoughtful and efficient than their rivals', the Van Persie transfer especially.

City paid close to £40 million for Javi Garcia, Matija Nastasic, Scott Sinclair, Jack Rodwell and Maicon, while Sir Alex spent a little under £50 million on Van Persie, Alex Buttner, Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell (via TransferMarkt.com).

With the possible exception of Nastasic, none of Roberto Mancini's signings have lived up to their price tag and could all be considered genuine flops.

Though one could never say for sure, it is a fair perception that the Red Devils squad has been far more united than Manchester City's this season.

Roberto Mancini's January bust-up with striker Mario Balotelli made headlines across Europe, casting the City team spirit in a terrible light (via BBC).

Following a disappointing loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League last year, Mancini slammed his keeper Joe Hart in public, telling reporters he "should stay in goal and make saves" (via The Telegraph).

There has been no equivalent report emanating from Old Trafford, where the team has only seemed united in the cause of claiming domestic glory once again.

A far more tangible area, but worthy nonetheless, Manchester United have simply scored more goals than Manchester City this season.

Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez have found the back of the net with a reliable consistency, while none of Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko or Sergio Aguero have scored more than 12 in the Premier League.

Of the two sides, it's actually City who have the better defensive record, but they haven't been able to match United's goalscoring exploits at the other end of the pitch.

Though Manchester City entered this current Premier League season as reigning champions, the Red Devils have been doing so for decades before them.

The Manchester United squad is filled with several highly decorated players. Ryan Giggs has won 12 EPL winner's medals, Paul Scholes has 10 while Rio Ferdinand has five to his name.

Even the relatively young Brazilian full-back Rafael has lifted Britain's most significant trophy twice, once more than the majority of City's best.

It has also been the experience of master-motivator Sir Alex Ferguson that has been key. Playing for the Scotsman gives a footballer a winning mentality before he even steps on the field.

Barcelona vs. Real Madrid, 2013 Copa del Rey semifinals: Preview ...

Given the tumultuous status of Real Madrid and Barcelona's Champions League campaigns, Tuesday's Copa del Rey edition of El Clasico could end up being a "make or break" game for each team's season.

When Raphäel Varane scored an equalizer for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal tie against Barcelona, it gave Los Merengues' season new life. While they were (and still are) involved in the Champions League, a home loss to Barcelona in the competition they have the best chance of winning would have been devastating. Instead of heading to the Camp Nou as dead men walking, they will take the pitch on Tuesday feeling confident that if they perform to the best of their abilities, they can advance to the final.

Barcelona are still cruising atop La Liga and will capture that trophy without a problem, but their season has taken a turn for the worse recently. Varane's goal was an extremely minor setback compared to last week's performance at the San Siro, where they were soundly beaten 2-0 by a superior AC Milan side.

The Blaugrana have appeared to be on cruise control in many of their league matches, but were winning comfortably despite their deficiencies. As long as they continued to rack up results, Barcelona's problem -- a less incisive and ruthless team than in years passed -- was out of sight and out of mind. Milan's performance suddenly made their issues very apparent and very real.

As neither side looks like the current team to beat in the Champions League, Tuesday's match could be a make-or-break one in the seasons of both Barcelona and Real Madrid. It would be difficult to wash away the disappointment of a Round of 16 exit in the Champions League for either team, but a Copa del Rey title will make that bitter pill much easier to swallow, and could be the difference between supporters being patient or calling for an overhaul of their club.

The only serious injury concern for Barcelona is Adriano, who likely would only be a substitute even if he was healthy. However, he's an extremely useful substitute and Roura will be hoping he'll be fit in time for the match. He's an excellent pair of fresh legs at either fullback spot, and he's a top notch defensive winger. Jose Manuel Pinto is expected to start ahead of Victor Valdes as per usual in the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid's only confirmed absence is Iker Casillas, who is still out with a broken wrist. Raphäel Varane, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema are recovering from minor nagging injuries and should all be available to start if Mourinho wants to pick them.

Barcelona (4-3-3): José Manuel Pinto; Jordi Alba, Gerard Piqué, Carles Puyol, Dani Alves; Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernandez, Cesc Fabregas; Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Pedro Rodriguez

Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Diego Lopez; Fabio Coentrão, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa; Sami Khedira, Xabi Alonso; Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil, Angel Di Maria; Karim Benzema

Jordi Alba vs. Angel Di Maria: As good as Angel Di Maria has been this season, he'll have his hands full with the forward runs of Jordi Alba. He provides a fantastic wide outlet down the left flank for Barcelona, and Di Maria will need to track him.

Jose Mourinho vs. Jordi Roura/Tito Vilanova: If Massimiliano Allegri can get the better of Jordi Roura and Tito Vilanova, surely Jose Mourinho can figure something out? Perhaps it's time for him to go back to negative football in an attempt to stifle and defeat the Blaugrana. The Merengues supporters won't like it too much, but it worked for Milan for a reason.

Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta vs. themselves: Both Cesc and Iniesta are in poor form at the moment, and will need to up their games on Tuesday. Their games do depend on other forward players making good runs, which they weren't really doing against Milan, but they have to attempt (and occasionally complete) difficult and creative penetrative passes when the opportunities present themselves.

Madrid's CBs vs. their markers on attacking set pieces: Raphäel Varane's goal in the first leg was no fluke. Madrid's central defenders (and Cristiano Ronaldo) are bigger, stronger, and better jumpers than anyone on Barcelona. The Blaugrana don't have to make a bad mistake to concede on a set piece. This is a simple reality of the physical attributes of both teams. Pepe, Sergio Ramos and Varane are among the hardest players in the world to mark on set plays, but Barca will have to do something to keep them from getting free headers.

Real Madrid need a 1-1 draw to force extra time or a higher scoring draw to progress. Barcelona's recent form suggests that a result like this is doable for Los Merengues. I like a 2-2 draw and Madrid to progress to the final.

Real Madrid Castilla coach Toril admits speaking with Jese after outburst - Tribalfootball.com

Real Madrid Castilla instructor Alberto Toril admits a week ago addressing Jese Rodriguez after his outburst. Jese made clear his disappointment at the lack of first team opportunities for young players at Real. "I talked to him and it's an exclusive talk. He was decent and expressed his feelings. I simply told him to be mindful, but he's not done anything wrong, nor has he messed with anyone. "He has to understand that, again, probably at times he should shut up," said Toril.

Manchester City 2 Chelsea 0: match report - Telegraph.co.uk

The form of Toure, Sergio Aguero and David Silva will offer Mancini hope City may at least end the campaign in form resembling that of champions.

It wasn't so long ago Chelsea aspired to play like Barcelona. Mancini is under pressure because, it's believed, City's Spanish-influenced hierarchy wants the same.First you have to win. Then winning isn't enough and you have to do so with panache.

The dourness of the opening stages demonstrated the current plight of two teams with seriously compromised ambitions for the rest of this campaign. When the self-preservation of the two managers is the primary focus prior to kick-off, it's a guarantee of a no risk strategy on the park.

Rafa Benitez's teams always play to contain and wait for mistakes and not even a fifteen-point gap to Manchester United before kick-off was going to prompt Mancini to look up the phrase 'gung-ho' in his coaching dossier.

Aguero began as the sole striker, midfielders invited to support and probe in support, but when Tevez arrived in the second half the game opened up and City found their form.

Jack Rodwell, one of the few City employees seen at The Etihad less than Sheikh Mansour, made his first start since October and did well. Samir Nasri - the 'fifty percenter' as he is now known - was on the bench until injury time.

Nasri isn't the only scapegoat of the season, however. The preference of Kolo Toure's bulky presence to Joleon Lescott tells the England international where he stands.

For Chelsea, Benitez maintained his policy of rotating captain John Terry, whose lack of pace he finds hard to trust every week. Terry was a sub.

Petr Cech's reflexes were needed to swat away Matija Nastisic's header after 15 minutes and four minutes later, Aguero was guilty of over indulgence when sent through by Silva. The Argentine's heavy touch ran the ball of play as he tried to dribble past Cech.

Cech remained the busier keeper before half-time, Rodwell showing plenty of glimpses of the talent that attracted Brian Marwood to his signature last summer.

Chelsea had offered little attacking threat but should have led on 51 minutes when Hart mistimed his run from goal and ran into Ba.

Referee Andre Marriner had no option but to give the penalty, but Hart's save galvanised City. Mancini finally sent on Tevez to support Aguero on 55 minutes and opportunities began to flow, with Toure's strike and Tevez's unstoppable second four minutes from time punishing a limp, soulless Chelsea and ensuring United still have plenty of work to do.

Rafael hails Man Utd hero Ryan Giggs on 999th game as boring ...

Yet that was the word that came out of his team-mate Rafael's mouth as he attempted to describe the 39-year-old Welshman's wizardry.

Giggs put the cherry on another sensational showing by scoring the second goal that sealed United's comfortable win.

Rafael, who was just five months old when Giggs signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford in December 1990, said: "Ryan is an unbelievable player. Every game you see him, he works hard, scores goals and makes assists.

We have seen this kind of display from Giggs hundreds of times down the years. From when he first burst on to the scene as a floppy permed left winger to his current guise as a greying around the temples central midfielder.

Giggs did to QPR what he has done to countless teams over the years as he took a giant stride towards to an unmatched THIRTEENTH Premier League winners' medal.

And with the old boy showing no signs of slowing, maybe he should have made a slight detour on his way back through London to ask Arsenal if he could borrow their trophy cabinet.

It is going to take a either a minor miracle or a major catastrophe for runaway leaders United to be overtaken at the top of the table. Giggs sealed this victory 10 minutes from time as, like a spring chicken, he sprung the Rangers offside trap before drilling a shot into the bottom corner — just like he did when he was 19.

But as the ball bounced out of the area and upfield with plenty of pace, Rafael returned it with interest as he spectacularly fired it back into the top corner from 30 yards.

He said: "It was a very good day, we are very happy. I saw the ball coming towards me, I just hit straight through it and knew it was in the moment I hit it.

"You just get that feeling and I didn't want to blink in case I caused it to miss. I can't remember scoring as good a goal. I scored against Liverpool but it was not the same. I curled the ball then.

Eight decades after Holocaust, neo-Nazis use soccer to preach...

Alex Grimm / Bongarts via Getty Images Israeli flags are held up by fans of the German soccer team Kaiserslautern to protest against anti-Semitism before the Bundesliga fit between Hamilton Academical Kaiserslautern and VfL Wolfsburg in March a year ago. By Mark Snyder, NBC News Special Correspondent Almost seven years following the Holocaust, young soccer fans in Germany are becoming targets of neo-Nazis who preach the hatred of Adolf Hitleras Third Reich. aAgain and again we see neo-Nazi presence in [sports] fan clubs and my company asks that action be taken against them,a explained Winfriede Schreiber, head of the Brandenburg branch of the German governmentas intelligence service. aFor case, we see the lover club in [the German city] Cottbus consisting of a lot of neo-Nazis. We asked the football club to do some thing about this.a At her office in Brandenburg, a situation in western Germany, Schreiber monitors extremism and reports proof of hate crimes to prosecutors. aThe neo-Nazis now seem like everyone else,a Schreiber said. aGone are the jackboots and black leather jackets that used to create it simple to expose them. Now they blend into the local population.a Based on Schreiber, the neo-Nazis sign up for Hitleras views and celebrate his one-time deputy, Rudolf Hess. aThe chance the neo-Nazis pose is that they're against democracy and they work to alienate teenagers from democracy,a she said. aThey have built aJudena [Jews] a curse word even though there are no Jews playing on the soccer field.a Jens Teschke, a spokesman for Germany's inside ministry, which is responsible for domestic security, said neo-Nazi activities are visible throughout Germany, but strongest in the country's east. Young soccer fans are taken by aneo-nazis to domiciles built in the Nazi times as trip retreats for elite members of Hitleras party,a Teschke said. aThey laud the Nazi era and the legacy with this era.a Based on Teschke, programs were launched by the German government in January 2011 to make football instructors more alert to neo-Nazi methods. The problem is maybe not limited by Germany. In England, fans of London-based Tottenham Hotspur -- which boasts a strong Jewish following -- have already been afflicted by anti-Semitic abuse for many years. In November, supporters of West Ham United "hissed on a few occasions, mocking the mass execution of Jews during the Second World War," the U.K.'s Telegraph newspaper reported. "While the hissing, shamefully, is nothing new, Tottenham supporters were also put through a of 'Adolf Hitler, he is coming for you.'" Each time a mob all the way to 50 masked men armed with knives and baseball bats attacked Tottenham Hotspur fansAbefore a League match in Rome only days earlier, an American college student endured a stab wound and a punctured lung. Witnesses told local media that the attackers shouted "Jews, Jews" as siege was laid by them to the bar. "The coordinated assault... appears to have been inspired at least in part by anti-Semitism," the Telegraph reported. The Simon Wiesenthal Center also recently highlighted the issue's progress. "The dilemma of anti-Semitic punishment at football matches which untilArecently has been limited by Eastern Europe, has been improved in Western Europe," it said in a study. Primary targets of anti-Semitism on the baseball field are the Makkabi clubs, Jewish athletic groups situated in 15 German cities. aEvery Makkabi group in Germany is confronted with anti-Semitism, as are groups with Jewish roots,a explained Deidre Berger, manager of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) in Berlin, an advocacy group. Soccer instructor Claudio Oppenberg, who is Jewish, said his staff also faced anti-Semitism from Muslim immigrants. According to Oppenberg, whoas trained Tus Makkabi Berlin for seven years, only two members of the existing team are Jewish. The others are from North Africa and Turkey. Throughout a game last March, Oppenberg mentioned are you able to perform for these damned Jews?a members of a Turkish team shouted at fellow Turks on the Makkabi team: aHow The Turkish team beat the Makkabis 1-0. Oppenberg said the Turkish instructor confronted him after the game and said: aWe f---d you Jews.a Oppenberg submitted costs with the German Football Federation and the Turkish instructor was stopped for a year. aIf you've racism and anti-Semitism in society, then you will have it in basketball too,a said Alex Feuerherdt, a soccer referee and freelance writer. Danica Patrick not satisfied with Daytona finish

With one lap to go, Patrick was running third behind Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. The crowd was going nuts, hoping the pole-sitter could somehow pull out an improbable win.

All of a sudden, Patrick's inexperience in stock cars showed as her No. 10 car slipped back to eighth. Johnson held off Earnhardt to win the Great American Race.

"I would imagine pretty much anyone would be kicking themselves about what they coulda, shoulda have done to give themselves an opportunity to win," she said. "There was uncertainty on how to accomplish that."

Patrick led three times for a total of five laps, and she ran in the top 10 most of the day. It wasn't that strenuous, either, giving her a time to chat on the radio with her crew chief and spotter, picking their brains on strategy at the end of the race.

"How am I gonna do this?" Patrick recalled thinking. "I didn't know what to do exactly. Maybe that's just my inexperience. Maybe it was not me thinking hard enough. I'm not sure. I was a little bit uncertain how to do that."

After winning the Daytona 500 for the second time, Johnson gave a shoutout to his sponsor Lowe's, the home improvement chain.

Danica Patrick was running third heading to the final lap, but she dropped back to eighth as everyone jostled for position.

Johnson, a five-time champion, also won the 500 in 2006. But he's had some tough finishes in recent years, including a 42nd-place flameout in 2012.

Jimmie Johnson leads and Danica Patrick is still in the mix after a late caution flag for debris on the track in turn two.

When the green flag came out with six laps to go, Johnson was followed by defending Cup champion Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer. Patrick is running sixth.

Defending champ Matt Kenseth had led more laps than anyone when, suddenly, his car began smoking on lap 149. He headed to pit road and it didn't take long for the crew to push him behind the wall, ruining any hopes of becoming the first back-to-back winner since Sterling Marlin in 1994-95.

Kenseth and his new teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin, were actually running 1-2-3 when Kenseth had some sort of engine or transmission problem. Just two laps later, Busch's car also went out, smoking as well, sending the driver of the No. 18 machine storming through the garage, ripping off his racesuit.

"It's really unfortunate," Busch said. "We were running 1-2-3 and it felt like we were dropping like flies. Something inside the motor broke that's not supposed to break. It's a little devastating when you're running 1-2-3 like that. Hopefully the No. 11 (Hamlin) can bring it home."

Edwards was caught up in a crash heading into turn one at the Daytona 500, another case of simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Trevor Bayne bumped Brad Keselowski from behind, which sent the No. 21 car sliding sideways.

Stewart was 82 laps behind the leaders when he rolled out of the garage after an early crash. His frustration was never more evident than when he joined in the repair effort, banging on his No. 14 car with a hammer during the long stint in the paddock.

"To hell with the season," Stewart said. "I wanted to win the Daytona 500. We had a car that we could pass with today. We were passing cars by ourselves. I was so happy with our car, was just waiting for it to all get sorted out again. I don't know what started it, but we just got caught up in another wreck."

Stewart's misfortune came a day after he won the lower-division Nationwide race — his 19th career triumph at Daytona.

While there's nothing unusual about Kenseth leading at Daytona, where he's won two of the last three years, it's a bit jarring to see him doing it in the No. 20 car.

Kenseth had spent his entire Cup career driving the No. 17 machine for Roush Fenway Racing, but he switched to Joe Gibbs Racing this season. He's got a new car, a new number, a new sponsor and a new team.

The first woman to start from the pole at the Daytona 500 has become the first female to lead a lap in a NASCAR Cup race.

Patrick sent the huge crowd into a frenzy when she snatched the lead from Michael Waltrip on lap 90 after a series of pit stops under yellow. She led two laps before Denny Hamlin surged to the front.

But Patrick has shown her qualifying run was no fluke. She's got a strong car and has been in the top 10 all day as the 200-lap race approaches the midway point.

Patrick switched to NASCAR last year after becoming the first woman to lead laps at the Indianapolis 500, as well as being the first to win an IndyCar race.

In the strangest part of the buildup to the Daytona 500, Mr. Cent brought back memories of Joe Namath's awkward attempt to plant one on Suzy Kolber when he tried the same move with Andrews on pit road.

Former 500 winners Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart and Jamie McMurray were caught up in the crash on lap 33. So was defending Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski.

The melee began coming through the tri-oval when Kasey Kahne's car began to slide across the track after appearing to get bumped from behind by Kyle Busch.

At least two other drivers also got caught up in the mess: Juan Pablo Montoya and Casey Mears. Joey Logano made a great move to dodge the spinning cars.

HANG ON TIGHT: From one defending champion to another, Brad Keselowski had a piece of advice for Daytona 500 starter Ray Lewis:

The retired Baltimore Ravens star served as honorary starter for the Daytona 500. Lewis waved the green flag without incident Sunday to start the "Great American Race."

"Brad texted me on the way in, the one rule is, don't drop the flag," Lewis said before the race. "I'm going to squeeze the flag very hard. I want to watch this and be a part of it. To be here is an awesome experience."

Lewis was one of several stars at Daytona International Speedway. Rappers T.I. and 50 Cent attended NASCAR's season opener, which has Danica Patrick starting on the pole.

Oscar-nominated actor James Franco was the grand marshall and said, "Drivers and Danica, start your engines!" The Zac Brown Band played a pre-race concert in the Daytona International Speedway infield. Band member Clay Cook performed the national anthem.

Retired baseball pitcher Tom Gordon, comedian Drew Carey, and Wes Welker and Steve Spurrier also were in attendance.

Lewis called Keselowski on the eve of the 2012 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway and left him an inspirational voice message. Keselowski also often listens to Lewis' motivational speeches before races.

"I caught a glimpse of how he always watched my videos and it really inspired him," Lewis said. "That's when me and him really started having conversations with each other, and from there it just turned into a friendship. I send him motivational things, and heads-up on what I am doing, that's where the relationship has gone."

DANICA DROPS BACK: Danica Patrick made history by becoming the first woman to start from the pole in a NASCAR Cup race.

Choosing the outside spot on the front row, Patrick gave up the lead to Jeff Gordon on the very first lap, missing out on an early chance to become the first female to lead a Cup lap.

Patrick went on the radio before the race to thank her crew for giving her such a strong car. "I'll do the best job I can to do my end of the deal today," she said. "All in all, thank you for everything. You guys are awesome."

Later, Patrick sent the huge crowd into a frenzy when she snatched the lead from Michael Waltrip on lap 90 after a series of pit stops under yellow. She led two laps before Denny Hamlin surged to the front.

Of course, this year is different. Danica Patrick is the first woman to start from the pole in a Cup race, and Franco hinted beforehand that he was planning an audible. As unpredictable as ever, he passed on a chance to copy the command that was used when Patrick raced in the Indianapolis 500, "Lady and gentlemen, start your engines."

One day after a harrowing crash injured dozens of fans in the stands, those same seats are filling up for the Daytona 500.

"These should be good seats," said Rick Barasso, as he settled into a spot that was right in the danger zone when Kyle Larson's car slammed into the catch fencing on the final lap of a Nationwide Series race Saturday. "I mean, what are the chances of it happening again?"

That seems to be the attitude of the fans heading into the Daytona 500, the season-opening Cup race and biggest event on the NASCAR schedule. Most people say it's worth the risk to sit next to the ear-rattling action — no more than 20 feet away for those in the first row. They love to hear the engines, smell the exhaust, and feel the wind whipping in their face as 43 cars go by at nearly 200 mph.

Raymond Gober returned to the same location where he was nearly struck by a bolt from Larson's car. He scooped up the debris as a souvenir, though he acknowledged being a little nervous about his seat on the back row of the lower level. He even considered wearing his motorcycle helmet to the 500, but figured "everybody would start laughing at me." Next year, he plans to buy an upper-level seat in the main grandstand.

There are grim reminders of what happened Saturday: a bloody spot that had been washed down (not entirely, though), a tire mark on a seat, another seat that was partially bent from getting struck by that same tire.

Arsenal v Bayern Munich|Functions|News|Arsenal.com

Welcome to Talking Heads. Before and after each first-team fixture, our co-commentator and an Arsenal blogger may have their say on the overall game. Strategy took on Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday and our Talking Heads for this sport were former Gunner Adrian Clarke and Avenell Dave from Arsenal Addict. Adrian Clarke Co-commentatorADRIAN CLARKE, ARSENAL PLAYER CO-COMMENTATORBayern Munich revealed their class in this game, and itas difficult to argue that they didnat deserve to win the match. In the initial half their cohesion was superb, and in reality they made the Gunners look very normal with their remarkable passing and movement. Following the break more belief was shown by Arsenal, and for some time they threatened to pull it back once again to 2-2, nevertheless the next Bayern target on the break was a complete killer. Regardless of the character of Bayernas performance I still thought all three targets were preventable. For the first attack, two tried clearances failed, and that generated the right-wing combination being delivered under no pressure at all. Then, because the ball was coming to Toni Kroos, I wonder if the Gunners would have responded faster. Having said that, the first-time finish was outstanding. The second purpose was discouraging. Daniel van Buytenas run across the defenders from the part went unnoticed, and then Wojciech Szczesny can feel he needs to have held the header that rebounded to Thomas Muller. The final, crucial purpose came from a overlap from Philipp Lahm that wasnat followed. Over all it had been a chastening night where Arsenal were beaten by the better part. Very several goalscoring opportunities were made, and the visitors were very much in get a handle on. The boys own it all to complete in Munich if theyare to stand a chance of achieving the last nine. System havenat had long to stay on the shock of dropping to Blackburn and thatas a positive. Iam sure the participants have more than enough personality to dust themselves down from that disappointment and give attention to what has to be one of the checks in European football, the might of Bayern Munich. I genuinely believe the last fit will be forgotten the minute the participants sit down to obtain improved this evening; the adrenaline will be moving. The most crucial aspect of this match is always to keep a clean linen. If Arsenal can head to Munich with a guide, or knowing that a score pull could take them through, that would be a fantastic place to be in at the final whistle. Having said that, I still anticipate the Gunners to maintain positivity and continue the strike. All things considered, thatas the only method they really learn how to play, and I sense that Jupp Heynckesa area may be a little frightened of Theo Walcottas pace. If heas on track, maybe it's the catalyst for a harmful Arsenal performance. Bayern Munich have the skill to ruin anybody nevertheless, and over two feet they are overwhelming favourites. Famous brands Robben, Ribery, Muller, Mandzukic, Gomez and co can have a lot of headaches for Arsenalas defenders. Theyare planning to need certainly to focus incredibly difficult to keep that clear linen weare looking for. As for a forecast, Iall fat for a 2-1 win. It wouldnat function as the great outcome, but I donat think ArsAne Wenger could be disappointed with it either. Avenell Dave Arsenal AddictAVENELL DAVE, ARSENAL ADDICTItas hard to know where the love for Bayern ends and the frustration with Arsenal begins, actually. A number of supporters I spoke to after ward think Bayernas disciplined, calculated performance was the most effective they've ever seen at the Emirates - even better than Barca - and I could see why. Yes, the Germans involve some outstanding players but they may also be well-drilled and hard-working, just as Barca were once we played them. Gaining the right to play and stifling the opposition is an integral part of successful football matches and awards and itas anything Arsenal donat always do enough of. Our left flank was also targeted by bayern and it worked well. Johnson Vermaelen is not as comfortable at full straight back and was isolated at times but Iam also sure we're able to did more on all three goals. Today all emphasis must be on the residual 12 Premier League games. We have some outstanding players and some who arenat very playing to their potential. Itas around ArsAne Wenger to nurse the squad right through to the summertime and then both upgrade and strengthen to make certain every squad area is filled by what he would identify as asuper qualitya. Weare all disappointed by still another season failing to participate at the business enterprise end of tournaments but reaching the top four must be the total emphasis now and Villa will be no pushovers. Many supporters scoff when ArsAne Wenger says that he feels in his people nevertheless the way we've covered teams aside in 2010 suggests that we have the capacity to participate. Inconsistency, software and perspective have already been called into question and there's undoubtedly that more players need to follow Jack Wilshereas case and fight for the shirt in every moment of every sport. If every player really needed it like Jack does, we'd maybe not be driven right into a acrisisa - as the press and some fans like to put it - quite so often. With egos bruised and supporters worried, we will need a big work tonight to obtain some thing from the overall game against Bayern. They're in regards to the most in-form staff in Europe and their domestic record is up there with Barcelona's. With worries about who plays at left back and Laurent Koscielny a doubt, weare really facing it but I do fancy us to get some thing from the game and make more than just to the away leg a jaunt to Munich. Nevertheless annoying results or activities have already been occasionally this year, the most important thing people fans can do is get behind the team and make it as feasible for Bayern as hard to get into their stride. * The views expressed in Talking Heads do not fundamentally reflect those of Arsenal Soccer Club or Arsenal Broadband Ltd 'Weave got some great expertise in that dressing room, itas only exactly about putting that into one dish'

Tina Maze wins super-combi, clinches overall title

MERIBEL, France (AP) — Tina Maze of Slovenia clinched her first overall World Cup title Sunday, winning the super-combined for her eighth victory this season with nine races still to go.

Maze led the downhill section and coasted home in the slalom after Maria Hoefl-Riesch crashed out of contention. She also tied a season record with her 18th top-three finish, matching the podium mark set by Pernilla Wiberg of Sweden and Hanni Wenzel of Liechtenstein.

"I'm an emotional person; I didn't want to cry (on the podium)," Maze said, adding she felt sick before the slalom. "I went to the toilet six times before I started."

Maze already has 1,844 points and is all but certain to smash the season record — men or women — of 2,000 held by Austrian great Hermann Maier.

"It's really special because it's so difficult to win. For me it's special to continue this level of skiing," Maze said. "To be on the top is amazing. It's a great season for me. Even if there have been ups and downs I have always come back."

Barring injury, Maze is likely to break the men's and women's points record and seal her place in skiing history with the women's season record for podiums.

She is also seeking to become only the third woman to win all five discipline races in one season and needs only a downhill win to do so. She had a chance Saturday, but finished fourth, and now has two downhills remaining, starting next week in the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Hoefl-Riesch is second in the overall standings but is 958 points behind and has no chance of closing the gap. Each victory is worth 100 points.

Lindsey Vonn, the four-time overall winner and defending champion, fell out of contention after she took a monthlong break because of an intestinal illness and then was done for the season after a knee injury at the world championships. Vonn is still third overall with 740 points.

"I'm really tired now, especially after a long day like today," the 29-year-old Maze said. "Today was so tough, I didn't know where I was. I almost went off the course twice. But I just managed to catch the gates. It's crazy."

Nicole Hosp of Austria, the world championship bronze medalist in super-combi, finished second, while countrywoman Michaela Kirchgasser took third with a superb slalom run.

"My target is to be focused until the end of the season because there are many small globes that are open and possible to get," she said. "I want to keep this level of skiing until the end. I don't want to go down; I want to keep it at the high level."

Julia Mancuso went close to clinching the fourth super-combi podium of her career and her first in six years. But the American made a small mistake midway through, falling forward on her skis.

Maze is trying to become the first woman to break the 2,000-point barrier. She can smash Vonn's mark of 1,980 from last season and surpass Maier men's record of 2,000 in 1999-00.

"It has been an extraordinary season for Tina," Kirchgasser said. "To be so far ahead in the points. Last time it was a man who won with more than 2,000 points and I don't think Tina will be far off."

Maze's phenomenal season also includes three gold medals from the worlds in Schladming, Austria — gold in super-G and silver in super-combi and giant slalom. She lost out on a second gold to Hoefl-Riesch and felt Sunday's win somewhat made up for that.

"I had that in mind because in Schladming I didn't do a good slalom," she said. "I didn't risk a lot and today I did different. So at the end it's a revenge, too, but the priority was better skiing from my side.

"It's a good slope, I had some troubles yesterday in downhill," Maze said. "I had some trouble on the top. But the rest of the hill is like a dream."

Birmingham City vs. Chelsea: Critique and TV plan - SB State

Between Manchester United's form and the typical activities of the Premier League's fourth-place opponents, Chelsea and Manchester City must be locked into their positions. If each side wins on Sunday, that may change. At the beginning of the growing season, a February clash between Manchester City and Chelsea might have been regarded as a really marquee encounter between two teams with lots to play for. Any game between your second and third best clubs in England may be worth seeing, undeniably, but lots of the luster has vanished from this installation. Both parties are only treading water, having seasons which can be regarded neither good, nor devastating. Town could get Manchester United in magic scenario and Chelsea could fall out of the utmost effective four with a fall, but both cases appear impossible. Area and Chelsea be seemingly fighting to live another day, just ensuring they cannot dig a pit for themselves planning in to next year. Area path Manchester United by 15 factors, but a fall below most of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal would be incomprehensible. Chelsea are merely one point above Spurs, but their purpose differential of plus-27 shows that a drop below last place is impossible. Rafael Benitez and Roberto Mancini are both virtual dead men walking, wanting to secure enough excellent results to save lots of their jobs for next period, but that's more likely to prove a futile endeavor for both men. So, what is the point of this game anyway? Actually, it's just self-preservation. Both teams are trying to see off a collapse. Ideally that doesn't create a bore pull. Manchester City insides and incidents Out: Micah Richards (knee). In doubt: Vincent Kompany (calf), Gareth Barry (ankle). Chelsea suspensions and incidents Out: Oriol Romeu (leg). Iker Casillas healing from injury wants with winning a title this season

Iker Casillas says his recovery from the broken bone in his hand is going better than expected and he could possibly be back between the Real Madrid posts as soon as late March.

Casillas' hand was broken by a random kick from his team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa throughout Madrid's Copa del Rey quarter-final recreation at the Mestalla on January 23.

It was feared he would experience 90 days on the sidelines, and the club moved quickly to signal Diego Lopez for 3.5 million from Sevilla to perform in their likely season-defining games against Barcelona in the Copa and Manchester United in the Champions League.

The Madrid club leader told reporters on Thursday night, at the opening of a new club store at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, that the original schedule had only been a worst-case scenario.

"I am feeling quite positive," Casillas said. "The physician gave the worst-case scenario to me, he explained it could get 3 months. But when the splint was removed yesterday, I was told I'd four weeks left. Now I am doing effective exercises to get flexibility and energy back the finger."

Casillas said he'd been spending so much time at Madrid's Valdebebas education facility to obtain back playing the moment possible.

"Until now I have maybe not had much strength in it, but I am getting it back little by little," he said. "We are at the halfway point of the injury. I've still got a month to go. I'll have to work more and suffer more to obtain straight back the flexibility of before. I'm getting excited about returning. It's worse being off the message than on it."

The event was also joined by Casillas' team-mates including Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso, Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria, Jose Callejon, Nacho and Kaka, while coach Jose Mourinho was missing.

Former Liverpool person Alonso said that, with the link balanced at 1-1, whoever obtained first in the Champions League last 16 get back sport at Manchester United on March 5 could be favourites to advance.

"They should have the support of the fans," he said. "It will be a challenge. The medial side that results first is likely to be favourites. Old Trafford is a great ground and it is the sort of match we all prefer to play. The tie is extremely open."

Di Maria stated that it could suit Madrid to be playing abroad in both of the upcoming, probably season-defining, activities.

"Things are getting well and develop to keep this way," he said. "We know that we've to have large matches in both tournaments and that it'll maybe not be easy. Probably playing away will undoubtedly be inside our favour since we prosper when things are against us. We've had this week to work with the best way to approach the games. I hope everything goes well."

Benzema, who remains a doubt for Saturday evening's La Liga sport at Deportivo La Coruna, said he was not concerned about his recent bad form facing target.

"I hope than I've up to now that I score more goals, but the thing could be the squad and to win the upcoming matches," he said. "We need certainly to work together to win. We've a fantastic group and we're all in good form."

"It does work that seriously he [Kaka] is playing well. He is helped by his state of mind and this is important for the staff, that he is playing well and that he is another alternative. That is usually positive.

Kaka's performance also received the reward of assistant mentor Aitor Karanka, who had been pleased with the reaction of the squad after planning behind to a Riki hit on 35 minutes.
"We knew that Deportivo were not playing well and saw us as an chance to change their fortunes. However in the second half we increased our play, we scored two goals and we could actually just take the three items house with us."

The win moved Real to within 13 points of league leaders Barcelona, until the Blaugrana surrounded out Sevilla afterwards Saturday evening. Inspite of the margin remaining exactly the same, Kaka believes victory over Depor can boost Real's likelihood of claiming silverware this phrase.

"I am much better. What we've around the corner is fascinating and it is the critical the main year and if the boss wants me to play I will be there to greatly help in these matches."

"The team is playing well and things are becoming better for me too. In baseball everything changes quickly and I am pleased to help the team win.
"[It was] a significant success really difficult match. In the initial half we were just a little anxious and we made several problems. In the second half we increased and we won three points which can be essential for us and for what's to come over the next several weeks," Kaka told the club's officers site.
True originated in behind at the Riazor, with Kaka scoring the equaliser before an 88th-minute winner was scored by Gonzalo Higuain for the visitors. (Video) Norwich City 2-1 Everton: Premier League Highlights ...

Grant Holt scored in the fourth minute of injury time as Norwich City came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 at Carrow Road and secure a first win in their last 10 Premier League games.

The Canaries had trailed to a first-half Leon Osman header before substitute Kei Kamara levelled with six minutes remaining, and the hosts were rewarded for their late pressure when burly striker Holt found the net.

For Chris Hughton's side, the win was their first since beating Wigan 2-1 in mid-December, and the edge given to them by the second-half introduction of Sierra Leone striker Kamara will come as a major boost to a side that has desperately struggled to score goals recently.

In contrast, the result is another blow to Everton's chances of Champions League qualification, with David Moyes' side now on a run of just one win in their last six league games.

They remain in the top six, but the defeat will only increase the concern for Toffees' fans at a time when the future of manager Moyes — whose contract is due to expire in the summer — is the subject of speculation.

Norwich played with determination in the first half, but were punished for their lack of a cutting edge as the visitors got their noses in front in the 39th minute.

Leighton Baines' delivery from the left wing is a constant source of danger for opposition teams, and so it proved as he swung in a typically pinpoint cross that Osman, all alone inside the penalty area, could not fail to convert.

It was his sixth goal of the campaign, and had set Everton on their way to a precious three points until Norwich were brought to life when Kamara, a January signing from Sporting Kansas City, entered the fray just before the hour.

Moments later, he forced a save from Tim Howard, the Everton goalkeeper who was making his 300th appearance for the club, with an acrobatic effort from inside the area.

However, he was not to be denied with six minutes remaining when he rose high above Marouane Fellaini to meet a left-wing corner with a thumping header and restore parity.

The home side, who had scored just one goal in their previous six games in all competitions, now had the wind in their sails, and they got their winner right at the very end.

Holt missed the target as the game moved into three minutes of injury time, and that allotted time added on had already passed when he pounced again, this time stabbing home from close range after another left-wing cross had created havoc in the Everton area.

Bayern Munich Have One Foot in Quarterfinals After First Ever Get...

Bayern Munich took took a huge step in securing qualification to the quarterfinals by having an extraordinary absent win against Arsenal. AIt thoroughly earned busy of play and was Bayernas first ever get in London. Germanyas report winners dominated many the match and again revealed why they are one of many favorites to lift the trophy May come. Targets from Toni Kroos, Thomas MAller and Mario Mandzukic given off a that further underlines precisely how focused and motivated Bayern are to ensure success this period, putting them firmly in the the driveras chair in this link. AIt took a fortuitous corner to get Arsenal back in the game in the 2nd half with former Bayern player Lukas Podolski using a rare lapse in attention but the Bavarians steadily resumed control and didnat release until the final whistle. Bayern neutralize Arsenalas speed After starting five minutes for the Gunners in which they used their rate well to get behind Bayernas defenders, the readers reacted well by reducing the game down and gradually squeezing Arsenal out of opportunities to utilize that rate. AArsenal chef Arsene Wenger emphasized his teamas design of play and his counterpart, Jupp Heynckes, informed of their power to play the ball quickly. Bayern could not afford to provide the space to Arsenal they found early in the game and persuaded to choke Arsenal in midfield to stop those quick transitions. ABefor the game, Heynckes said among their advantages this season is that every attacker must be a and every defender must be an attacker. AIf Bayern removed Arsenalas midfield, theyad effortlessly take out the players that launch each of their quick problems. Sure enough, Bayern enjoyed that out to perfection in the very first half. AMandzukic, MAller and Ribery forced from the front while Kroos, Martinez and Schweinsteiger applied pressure from the trunk. Mixed, the six won 69 duels throughout the match and caused Arteta, Wilshere and Cazorla to turn the ball over 23 times. When Arsenal had the majority of the property it rarely led to a qualified strike as a result of Bayernas timely pressure from both fronts. Martinez-Kroos-Schweinsteiger Positionally exemplary, composed on the ball and capable of studying every play Arsenal made, Bayernas midfield group was among the biggest reasons for their win in London. After space was found by Arsenal down Bayernas left at the beginning of the game, all three did well to address when Ribery and Alaba were either advanced level or out of place. AKroos was particularly effective going over to the left through the game. ATheir interchangeability and willingness to include for each other has been among Bayernas crucial benefits in 2010. The trio shielded their backline to good effect and every time Arsenal acknowledged Bayernas punishment package they seemingly went into a brick wall. ASome might indicate Arsenalas lack of options but a lot more than any such thing, it was Bayernas positional play and reading of the overall game that actually muted nearly all of their problems. Itas no surprise that Bayernas back line are setting all kinds of files in 2010, they have perhaps the best protection in world soccer in front of them and it showed against Arsenal. Bayern and Lahm use Arsenalas weaker left side Also sensing that Arsenal were more vulnerable on the left, Bayernas midfield trio cleverly changed the play to that part of the area when they could. AIt was not surprising that both of their targets in the first half were created down the best and the 3rd towards the conclusion of the game also came after a strike down that part. AVermaelen filling out at left-back and Podolskias inconsistent place didnat aid obviously but Bayern did exceptionally to exploit any space available. Lahm in particular was excessively effective and dangerous down his side. The Bayern chief was his teamas most active player with 93 touches and often participated in or right created many of their most dangerous attempts. ARibery and Alaba on the left were touted to be Bayernas biggest risk going into the game however it was their right side with Lahm and MAller that were the biggest thorn in Arsenalas side. Looking ahead System have it all to complete in the 2nd leg. ABayern conceded higher than a goal in the home one time in 2010. AThe last time they conceded three at home was nearly couple of years ago, a of 47 home matches. AWhatas more, a team has advanced to the quarterfinals only twice in the competitionas history after losing a primary leg in the home. AOne of those losses also been Bayern though therefore nothing is guaranteed in full just yet. Nevertheless, Bayernas home record this year is merely too good. AHow good? AIn the last five seasons in the league preceding the existing one, a stretch of 85 matches, they've only lost eight games with a positive goal difference of 159, a scary thought for Gunners supporters. AIt wouldnat be described as a stretch to say because they have in 2010 that perhaps not since their 2001 Champions League winning plan have Bayern found the type of concentrated focus and dedication. Roberto Mancini swears in Manchester City press conference | The ...

With City's hopes of retaining their Premier League title fading, Mancini's position has come under considerable scrutiny.

Mancini dismissed suggestions he could be sacked when he met media prior to last week's FA Cup win over Leeds and had to revisit the subject after the game.

When former Real Madrid boss Pellegrini was then mentioned in the opening question at his latest Press conference, Mancini indicated he was clearly wearying of the discussion.

"This is normal for you, it's your job, don't worry, but I can't continue to answer each week about one manager or another or another.

City trail Premier League leaders Manchester United by 12 points, a gap that could have increased before they face third-placed Chelsea on Sunday.

But after leading City to FA Cup success in 2011 and following up with last year's dramatic title victory — the club's first league win in 44 years — Mancini retains the support of the fans.

His name was chanted a number of times during the win over Leeds last Sunday, which took City through to the last eight of the cup.

Mancini said: "After the FA Cup game I said that in the last 18 months since Manchester United won the Premier League, there were seven trophies to play for and Manchester City won three of those seven trophies.

"For this reason I don't understand the speculation. I'm not the CEO or chairman, if you want to ask these questions ask them.

Mancini is unsure whether captain Vincent Kompany, who has missed the last four games with a calf injury, will be fit to return against Chelsea.

The Actual Madrid target device is stalling on an offer that would offer a whopping A26m to him annually. Cristiano Ronaldo has of course been an enormous success since his go on to the Spanish capital, rating an amazing 183 objectives in 181 hearings.

Real Madrid Send Zindedine Zidane to Scout Tottenham Winger ...

Real Madrid have handed former French international Zinedine Zidane a watching brief as the La Liga giants continue to track Tottenham winger Gareth Bale.

fanatix tickets – El Clasico tickets are still available for the biggest derby match in Europe.Real Madrid vs Barcelona tickets are on sale for this massive La Liga clash at the Bernabeau on March 3rd.

Italian source TuttoMercato claim that Zidane, who now works as a coach at Real Madrid, was in attendance at Stade Gerland last night as Tottenham overcame Lyon in their Europa League last 32 tie.

The 23 year old Welsh international is perhaps one of the most sought after players in Europe right now and Tottenham may struggle to keep hold of the former Southampton man, especially if Andre Villa-Boas's side fail to secure a Champions League berth for next term.

The interest from Real Madrid will surely interest Bale and the fact that a player of Zidane's status has been handed the job of scouting the Tottenham attacker may well help the Spanish side win any potential race to sign the wide-attacker.

Eredivisie: Janmaat on Wengers radar - ClubCall.com

Feyenoord right-back Daryl Janmaat is allegedly being qualified by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as Bacary Sagna's possible alternative. Italy interntional Sagna is considered to be weighing up his possibilities for this summer as he'll be approaching the closing year of his Gunners' commitment at the conclusion of this season.Paris Saint Germain, Inter Milan and a of Middle Eastern groups are thought to be hunting up the 30-year-old, who could possibly be persuaded to depart the Emirates Stadium as the Londoners are set for another trophyless campaign in addition to the truth he's only probably be provided a extension. Therefore, 23-year-old Dutch star Janmaat is thought to be certainly one of Wenger's top targets should Sagna depart, with scouts seeing him in action frequently this season.Janmaat only joined Feyenoord from Heerenveen last summer, but Arsenal's relationship with the Dutch outfit will help them negotiate a with them when the transport window opens for business in June.

Europa League Betting: Zenit to withstand Anfield onslaught ... - Betfair

"In the group stage Liverpool lost at home to Udinese and could only draw with Young Boys of Berne, and in the qualifiers only a late Luis Suarez strike saved them from an embarrassing defeat to Hearts."

Liverpool need one of their famous European comebacks to reach the last 16 of the Europa League, but Kevin Hatchard isn't convinced they can overcome Zenit St Petersburg. He does however think Chelsea will march on.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has made several public pronouncements of faith when it comes to turning this tie around, but make no mistake, last week's 2-0 defeat in Russia has left the Merseysiders' Europa League hopes hanging by a gossamer-thin thread. Liverpool's failure to score an away goal, despite the creation of several superb opportunities, could prove crucial.

Some observers have suggested Liverpool can take confidence from Sunday's 5-0 demolition of Swansea City at Anfield, but I think the relevance of that result can be questioned. The Swans made seven changes to their team ahead of Sunday's Capital One Cup final, and the fringe players put in a truly atrocious display. It's also worth considering that two of Liverpool's goalscorers on Sunday, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge, are ineligible for Thursday's match.

Liverpool tend to be flat-track bullies at Anfield these days, and their home results against top-end Premier League sides are far from impressive. Manchester United and Arsenal both left Merseyside with maximum points, while Manchester City came from behind to snatch a draw. In the Europa League group stage Liverpool lost at home to Udinese and could only draw with Young Boys of Berne, and in the qualifiers only a late Luis Suarez strike saved them from an embarrassing defeat to Hearts.

A further concern is that Zenit are a dangerous outfit on their travels, with seven wins in their last nine away games. Luciano Spalletti's men have the best away record in the Russian Premier League, with six wins and two draws, and in the Champions League group stage they won 1-0 at AC Milan. Defeats at Malaga (3-0) and Anderlecht (1-0) show Zenit aren't infallible on their travels in Europe, but this time around Zenit have something to defend.

Liverpool need one of their famed Anfield displays, with stars like Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard on top form, but the lack of an away goal in the first leg puts them in a tricky position. If Zenit score a goal at Anfield, Liverpool will need four goals to progress, and it's worth considering that Rodgers' side have kept just two Europa League clean sheets since the group stage began.

Liverpool look too short to me at 1.684/6, and you could oppose them in a number of ways. You could just lay them, or back Zenit +0.5 & +1.0 on the Asian Handicap at 2.09n/a or back Zenit Draw No Bet at 2.789/5. I don't think Liverpool will keep a clean sheet, so back Both Teams to Score at 1.834/5.

The first leg of this tie was played with the intensity of a testimonial for a player that no-one ever really liked. It was a mind-numbingly turgid affair played in front of a crowd that sounded like they were sat 300 miles away. Oscar's late goal gave Chelsea an undeserved 1-0 victory which has surely killed off the tie.

Sparta have missed their chance to cause an upset, and the Opta stats make hideous reading for fans of the Czech club. Sparta haven't won any of their last ten away games in all competitions, while Chelsea have won eight of their last nine European games at Stamford Bridge. To make matters worse for Sparta, Chelsea have banged in 28 goals in their last nine European home games.

Chelsea will rest Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic, but I still can't see anything but a convincing home win. I didn't see much in the first leg to suggest that Sparta can threaten the Chelsea rearguard, so it's worth a look at backing Chelsea to Win to Nil at 2.111/10. I am gobsmacked that you can back Chelsea -1.5 on the Asian Handicap at 2.01/1, so take advantage.

Bundesliga: Wolfsburg 0 Bayern Munich 2 - Soccerway

Bayern Munich kept up their march toward the Bundesliga title after strolling to a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena on Friday.

Mario Mandzukic showed no mercy against his former club when firing home a fantastic overhead effort in the first half, with Arjen Robben rounding off matters in injury-time to send the visitors 18 points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the standings.

Bayern typically dominated possession throughout the first half, but despite some promising build-up play, the final ball was lacking, breaking down a number of their attacks.

Wolfsburg were diligent in defence and, through the pace and directness of Marcel Schafer and Ivica Olic, found themselves with a purposeful outlet on the left flank to relieve pressure on their goal.

The first half seemed destined to end in a stalemate, but, nine minutes before the break, a moment of magic from Mandzukic broke the deadlock in stunning fashion.

Toni Kroos pumped a free kick toward the far post and Bastian Schweinsteiger nodded back to the Croatia striker, who connected superbly with an overhead kick that rifled in from 15 yards out.

The home side made a concerted effort to get back into the game in the second half, but were still indebted to Naldo for hacking clear a goalbound Thomas Mueller effort off the line.

Vieirinha blasted off target from 20 yards out, but Wolfsburg's best chance of the match came from Diego, who bent a free kick toward the corner that brought the best out of Manuel Neuer with a quarter of an hour to go.

The hosts' eagerness to get back into the match would cost them at the death as Mueller found Robben peeling away in space, the winger burying a powerful low finish to seal the game.

Man United Offered Real Madrid Winger | CaughtOffside

fanatix tickets – El Clasico tickets are still available for the biggest derby match in Europe.Real Madrid vs Barcelona tickets are on sale for this massive La Liga clash at the Bernabeau on March 3rd.

It appears that the former Benfica man is being shown to the Bernabeu exit and the Spanish giants are also looking to encourage Ligue 1 big spenders PSG to make an offer for the 25 year old.

The cultured winger finished as one of La Liga's top assist makers in both his first two seasons in Spain's top tier but hasn't been as reliable this term but even so it would seem very harsh to look to sell a player who clearly still has a lot to offer so one imagines there could be more to this picture than meets the eye.

Given that Jose Mourinho has fallen out with a number of his first team squad there is every possibility that the Portuguese boss has also seen his relationship with the slightly built attacker worsen.

If Sir Alex Ferguson were looking to freshen up his wide attacking options then he may well take an interest in Di Maria. The Argentine international offers a real goal threat which is more than can be said for Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia, neither of who have scored in Premier League action this season.

There are still question marks about Nani's future, especially following the January signing of young Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

FA Cup 2013 Quarterfinal Draw: Manchester United could host ...

Manchester United and Chelsea could face each other in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup, provided they win their fifth round matches.

The FA Cup quarterfinal could feature one truly marquee tie, though it's yet to be determined. Manchester United and Chelsea could face each other in what would be the best tie of the round, but they have to win their fifth round matches first.

Manchester United and Reading are scheduled to play on Monday. Chelsea didn't get to play their fourth round tie until Saturday, and will take on Middlesborough in the fifth round mid-week. Everton let Oldham secure a dramatic stoppage time equalizer to force a replay, so they will meet again at Goodison Park to determine who faces Wigan.

The winners of the quarterfinal ties will advance to play at Wembley Stadium, which kind of takes away from the magic of the 'we're going to Wembley' thing. Obviously Wembley Stadium cost a whole crap-ton of money and games need to be played there to offset the cost, but semifinals at the venue of the final are just horrible.
