If plays like these are any indication, maybe Magic Johnson's on his way to a relative bargain in his $1 million attempt to convince LeBron James to participate in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
Although the basketball world would be buzzing over a far different kind of drama by the end of this game, "King" James supplied the night's early dramatics.
James had no interest in seeing the Heat's franchise-best winning streak fizzle out in Philly and came roaring out of the gate in the contest:
The Heat faced a 22-21 deficit after the first quarter, but then they put together an inspired stretch like they've been known to do every now and then. A two-point Philadelphia 76ers lead fell apart in a 12-0 Heat run in the second quarter, capped off by this masterful reverse flush from James.
While Chris Bosh may have been a tad overzealous in his screen on Evan Turner, the rest of the Sixers defenders didn't do a whole lot to help out their teammate.
Rookie Arnett Moultrie opted to move to Bosh's outside hip. Jrue Holiday was limited to just a quick swipe as he was held by the three-point threat of Mario Chalmers. With Shane Battier and Ray Allen flanking James on the corners, the remaining Philly defenders understandably opted to stay out of the way of the 6'8", 250-pound locomotive.
James quieted considerably in the second half (finishing with 27 points) and the Sixers steadily chipped away at the Heat's lead. Holiday's dunk evened the score at 91 with 1:20 left, but Miami closed the game with a 7-3 run to eke out a 98-94 win.
