Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid: Lineups - SB Nation

Angel Di Maria has arrived in Dortmund following the birth of his child but is not in the starting lineup for Real Madrid. Jürgen Klopp has selected Sven Bender and Ilkay Gündogan over Nuri Sahin and Sebastian Kehl in his midfield.

There were questions about whether or not Angel Di Maria would be able to start for Real Madrid on Wednesday night following the birth of his child, and he's missed out. While he arrived in Germany today, Luka Modric will start in his place. He's joined by Gonzalo Higuain, who is preferred to Karim Benzema. Injuries to Alvaro Arbeloa, Michael Essien and Marcelo have forced Mourinho's hand in his defensive selection.

Jürgen Klopp has brought back his first choice central defense pairing from the last two seasons, moving Felipe Santana to the bench. Ilkay Gündogan and Sven Bender are preferred in the center of midfield to Nuri Sahin and captain Sebastian Kehl. The front four features no surprises.

Borussia Dortmund starting XI (4-2-3-1): Roman Weidenfeller; Marcel Schmelzer, Mats Hummels, Neven Subotic, Lukasz Piszczek; Ilkay Gündogan, Sven Bender; Marco Reus, Mario Götze, Jakub Blaszczykowsi; Robert Lewandowski

Real Madrid starting XI (4-2-3-1): Diego Lopez; Fabio Coentrão, Pepe, Raphäel Varane, Sergio Ramos; Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira; Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil, Luka Modric; Gonzalo Higuain
