NFL Draft Preview: Green Bay Packers

Prepared By: Cody Strahm Total: 8 Picks Staff Needs: Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Running Straight back, Broad Receiver Consensus First Round Pick: Tight Stop, Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame There probably hasnat been a calmer staff this offseason compared to Green Bay Packers. But thatas nothing new. Packersa GM Ted Thompson includes a firm philosophy to build through the draft. Itas a philosophy that's hard to question given Green Bayas success over the past four years and the repeated death of clubs that shop in free agency. With that said, this Packersa list is definately not perfect. Having arguably the most effective quarterback in football in Aaron Rodgers helps mask some of its holes. But when Thompson and the Packers have hopes of getting the city of Green Bay its fifth Super Bowl title, there are many important needs which they need certainly to handle in next Thursdayas draft. These requirements start over the offensive line. The Packers have ranked in the bottom 50% of the league in dashing the past three seasons and could be seeking to enhance at guard in the draftas early rounds. There as Aaron Rodgers was sacked a 51 times in 2012, are also some question marks at handle. Syracuse item Justin Pugh might be a choice for the Packers making use of their 26 th selection, while Alabamaas Barrett Jones could be a good match at guard. Green Bay has been known to hire lesser known tailbacks within their backfield and have been successful doing so in the past. But an inability to locate consistency on the floor the past several months could prompt Ted Thompson to add one of many leading skills at running back in the class in Alabamaas Eddie Lacy. Lacy is going to be gone once the Packers select in round two, so obtaining him could possibly require their first round pick or a business up in round two. If Green Bay travels on Lacy, though, there will nevertheless be great value in the centre times at the career with shells like Wisconsinas Montee Ball and Stanfordas Stepfan Taylor. Limited End isnat always a position of need, but with Jermichael Finley scheduled to hit the open marketplace in 2014, Notre Dameas Tyler Eifert might be too tempting to avoid if he is still on the board. A reputation has been developed by the Packers for holding one of many deepest getting corps in the entire category. But Greg Jennings signing with the competing Vikings and with James Jones set becoming a free agent after this period, assume the Packers to resolidify their level at the radio position. Tennessee Techas DaaRick Rogers and Arkansasa Cobi Hamilton would be welcomed additions in the next or fourth round. Going to the defensive side of the ball, the Packers are searching for support along the defensive line to better equip them to perform the 3-4. A five-technique defensive end is likely sought by theyall sooner or later. They could even look to enhance at nose tackle. Purdueas Kawann Short or UNCas Sylvester Williams could be a great snag in the next or third. At defensive back, many expect the Packers to check at creating a protection early after Charles Woodson was release. But with encouraging young safeties like Jerron McMillian and M.D. Jennings on the roster, expect the Packers to put up off on picking out a safety until the middle or late times.
