W not. J. Grant Knocks out Gray Maynard, Earns So next Shot at Benson Henderson's Concept.

For the UFC on Fox 7 post-fight push conference, UFC president Dana White announced of the fact that winner of the UFC one hundred sixty lightweight showdown between Longer. J. Grant and Gray Maynard would grab the next shot at the belt held by success Benson Henderson.

"Gray Maynard's positioned No. 3, T. T. Grant is ranked Simply no. 7, these guys are going to fight at UFC one hundred sixty, May 25, " White said in April. "The winner of this fight will fight Billy Henderson next. "

Concerning Saturday night, Grant but not only earned that shot, but he sent a voice message to the entire department that he's for real is the true No. 1 contender.

Facing Maynard at UFC 160, Grant knew that a title shot was at risk and leaving a durable impression would be the easiest method to go about earning a particular. He certainly did that will after clipping and catching Maynard early inside the first round, hurting a former title contender.

It was an emphatic statement by Grant not to ever only beat Maynard, who has been near the top of the lightweight division for recent years, but to become only your second fighter to finish him with the UFC. The other fighter was Frankie Edgar on their rematch in 2011.

Grant has become in a prime position to challenge Henderson with the belt in a bout that could take place sometime come july 1st, given his quick conquer Maynard on Saturday night time. With several cards in August still awaiting key event assignments, a championship bout between Henderson and Grant would fit the bill.
